Ambassador Norland Hosts Disability Roundtable

US Ambassador Norland convened a Roundtable on Disabled Rights. Among the guests were Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili, Deputy Chair on Parliamentary Committee on Healthcare and Social Issues Giorgi Tsereteli, Deputy Minister of Justice Gocha Lordtkipanadze and Organization representatives working on disability field.

During the meeting Ambassador Norland, stated, that it’s important to ratify the UN Convention on the rights of the disabled and make sure, that Georgian legalization is preventing discrimination against people who have disabilities. The United States is committed to working with the Georgian government, civil society organizations, and the public to continue the fight to protect the human rights of everyone, including those who are disabled. Ambassador Norland stated that USAID is investing over $2.5 million in projects in Georgia focused at increasing the integration of disabled Georgians.

"It is very important for our country to join the UN Convention and to get the anti-discrimination act about the Rights of People with disabilities. At this point, it is considerable to support legislative changes."- stated on the meeting, Coalition for Independent Living representative, Rari Ionatamishvili.
