First meeting with the newly elected leaders was held as part of the project to promote the independent life of people with disabilities

On December 9, the first meeting with the newly elected leaders was held as part of the project to promote the independent life of people with disabilities.

One of the objectives of the project is to establish independent living centers in six municipalities of Georgia and to promote their functioning. An introductory meeting with the selected leaders was held online. Its main theme was the principles of independent living and the main functions of independent living centers.

In addition, time was devoted to challenges related to disability in Georgia, including gaps in the status award system, medical approach, and lack of individually tailored services. In the future, independent living centers will become a kind of platform where people with disabilities themselves will advocate for their rights.

The existence of independent living centers and its services are crucial for the dignified life of people with disabilities, their autonomy and independent living. The cycle of trainings planned under the Independent Living Support Project will continue for the next five months.

The program is funded by USAID and implemented in partnership with MAC Georgia and the Coalition for Independent Living (CIL).
