Accessibility for Equality (World Jewish Relief – July 2014- June 2015)

The overall goal of the project was to promote the civil rights and access to education for PWD in Tbilisi, Gori, Rustavi and Akhaltsikhe regions. Further objectives included: Advocate for accessible physical environment among government decision-makers; Raise awareness of various groups of the society about the rights and needs of PWD with regard to accessibility.

CIL held workshops with municipalities of Tbilisi, Rustavi, Gori and Akhaltsikhe to inform them about the newly adopted accessibility requirements and discussed accessibility plans. As part of the activities promoting physical accessibility, the project built ramps to three buildings: Gori – Public School #9, Akhaltsikhe – Library and park around the library building and Rustavi – theatre building.

Finally, the CIL held seminars with business and developer companies to raise their awareness about the need for accessibility and the potential benefit that accessible environment can add to their businesses apart from increasing their social responsibility and corporate image.

Most importantly, the CIL has signed the Memorandum of Cooperation with M2 - one of the major Developer and Construction Companies in Georgia. According to the Memorandum, M2 will be the first developer company in Georgia who will undertake to ensure complete accessibility of its buildings for people with different disabilities and follow universal design standards with CIL’s consultancy.
