International law - COALITION FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING

Day of General Discussion (DGD) on the right of persons with disabilities to live independently and be included in the community

The Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was established in 2009 to monitor the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities by States parties. The Committee examines reports submitted periodically by States parties on their implementation of the rights enshrined in the Convention, makes recommendations to State parties concerned, and considers individual complaints about alleged violations of the rights enshrined in the Convention. The Committee, at its fourteenth session in August-September 2015, decided to devote one day of its fifteenth session to a general discussion on the right of persons with disabilities to live independently and be included in the community (article 19 of the Convention) to be held on 19 April 2016.
